<p>You will need to be specific here. Instead of &#8220;I want to weigh less&#8221; state that &#8220;I have lost 30 pounds&#8221;. Or instead of &#8220;I want to be debt-free&#8221;, write that &#8220;I have reduced my debt by $5,000&#8221;.</p>
<p>It is important to <strong>make it specific</strong> and write it as if you already have reached the goal.</p>
<p>It is important here to list everything you can think of about who your ideal self is, what that looks like.</p>
<p>On the other side of the paper, write <strong>My Real Self</strong>. Again, without judgment, describe who you believe you are today.</p>
<p>What you do for a job, where you live, <strong>things that motivate you</strong>, and also describe who you are physically as well as emotionally.</p>
<p>Once you have completed both sides of the paper take a pen or highlighter and draw a line between any of the items you think are similar to one another.</p>
<p>This will give you an indication of how far your real self is from your ideal self. Or maybe, how similar they are to each other.</p>
<p>This will also give you an indication of what <strong>other goals you could work towards</strong>.</p>
<p>Do you need to <strong>learn a new skill</strong> to advance at work, do you still have some weight you want to get rid of or is there a relationship that needs work?</p>
<p>When you have goals you can <strong>plot the direction you want to take</strong> as a way to improve your life.</p>
<p>When you start accomplishing goals, no matter how big or how small, you will <strong>find you are more satisfied with life</strong> and your stress level is reduced.</p>
<h3>Breaking the Stress Cycle by Planning for the Future</h3>

<p>If you want to get very specific about doing this timeline, get some poster board or a large piece of paper and add photos that <strong>reflect certain events in your life</strong>.</p>
<p>This is also an opportunity to take a <strong>look at your strengths and abilities</strong> that you may have forgotten when it comes to experiences in the past.</p>
<p>You will want to have a second poster board so that you can <strong>create a future timeline</strong>. This is where you can plan for the life you really want.</p>
<p>Make lines for one to five years on the poster board and then for each of the next five years as far into the future as you want to go.</p>
