Unhappy people engage in specific behaviors that happy people avoid. If you&#8217;re doing these activities, you&#8217;re not as happy as you could be. Achieving anything requires avoiding certain behaviors while adopting others. The same is true for your happiness.</p>
<p>Some people have an innate ability to be cheerful. Even if this talent does not come naturally to you, you can learn it.</p>
<p>If you want to be happy, avoid the following behaviors:</p>
<p><strong>1. Dwelling on the Past.</strong> Feeling guilty about something that has already happened does not make any sense. You cannot do anything without a time machine.</p>

<li>Did you arrive late for your job interview yesterday?</li>
<li>How can feeling horrible about it help right now?</li>
<li>Are you mad at yourself for not asking the cute girl out in 11th grade?</li>

<p>That is in the past, and you can’t change it.</p>
<p>Stop dwelling on the past and focus on the present. Life only occurs in the moment. You are squandering your life by dwelling on the past.</p>
<p><strong>2. Worrying About the Future.</strong> Worrying about the future isn&#8217;t any better than being bitter about the past.</p>
<p>Both mindsets devalue the present and spoil your mood. Prepare for the future without worrying about it.</p>
<p>The majority of your worries are unfounded.</p>
<p><strong>3. Holding Grudges.</strong> Refusing to forgive others will only punish you. Most people you&#8217;re angry with don&#8217;t even realize it.</p>
<p>They go about their lives with no regard for you. Who are you really punishing? Just yourself.</p>
<p><strong>4. Comparing Yourself With Others.</strong> With over 8 million people on the planet, there will always be someone who is wealthier, more attractive, wiser, or a better dancer.</p>
<p>Comparing yourself to others is a losing game, especially when you compare your flaws to their positives.</p>

<p>Yes, <strong>practicing gratitude brings happiness</strong>, and then having a positive attitude is not easy. This is especially true when you might be struggling with depression or anxiety.</p>
<p>If you think your anxiety or depression is out of control, you might want to seek a professional to get some help. There is certainly nothing wrong with admitting you have a problem and going for therapy or taking medication.</p>
