1. Dwelling on the Past. Feeling guilty about something that has already happened does not make any sense. You cannot do anything without a time machine.

- How can feeling horrible about it help right now?
- Are you mad at yourself for not asking the cute girl out in 11th grade?
That is in the past, and you can’t change it.
Stop dwelling on the past and focus on the present. Life only occurs in the moment. You are squandering your life by dwelling on the past.
2. Worrying About the Future. Worrying about the future isn’t any better than being bitter about the past.
Both mindsets devalue the present and spoil your mood. Prepare for the future without worrying about it.

3. Holding Grudges. Refusing to forgive others will only punish you. Most people you’re angry with don’t even realize it.

They go about their lives with no regard for you. Who are you really punishing? Just yourself.
4. Comparing Yourself With Others. With over 8 million people on the planet, there will always be someone who is wealthier, more attractive, wiser, or a better dancer.
Comparing yourself to others is a losing game, especially when you compare your flaws to their positives.
5. Ignoring the Positive. Humans are hardwired to look for danger and dwell on the negative.
This makes it simple to overlook all of the great aspects of your life.
To combat this inclination, create a list of positive aspects in your life and read it daily. Make a habit of this.
Keep the list next to your bed and read it every morning and night.
6. Focusing on the Bad. When things don’t go as planned, it’s easy to become unhappy and depressed.
Again, devote adequate time to the good things in your life. You’ve got lots of them.
7. Worrying About Others’ Opinions. You may believe you overcame this mindset after high school, but you are among the very few.
Kicking this habit can take a lifetime, but it is also extremely rewarding. You’re never free if you’re concerned about what others think. It can taint every aspect of your life.
8. Working at a Job You Hate. It’s called “work” for a reason, yet it makes no sense to spend 8+ hours every day doing something you despise.
Find a job that you enjoy, and you’ll eliminate one of the leading reasons for unhappiness.
